It is a sad day – I received an email from Gcast (the free podcast creating tool which allows one to call from any phone and create a podcast) today. Gcast announced that beginning April 1 they will be instituting a $99 fee and some access limitations on accounts. Bummer – Gcast was my podcasting tool of choice. I have been looking into some tools like drop.io and I know some people who really like Gabcast. Never a dull moment, and thankfully many new things to try.

The power of words is amazing and this site can definitely take more than five minute of a person’s Friday. Save the Words is a site dedicated to the words which have been removed from the Oxford due to lack of use. Words have been reinstated into the dictionary, but for this to happen, they need to be used. From vocabulary lessons to a fun study of words past to a casual use of a new but old word, Save the Words is a wonderful place to “take five” and investigate.
Happy Friday!

It is Wednesday. Who doesn’t need a little motivation on a Wednesday? (Especially around here, it was -2 this morning!!) Making your own customized and free motivational card or poster has never been easier. The Motivator allows you to upload the image of your choice (could be from your camera, or another great image site like the morgueFile), add in a title and quotation or saying, and then generates a poster you can put into PowerPoint, save as a .jpg, upload to flickr, or email to a friend. A neat tool, especially if you find yourself making awards for an end-of-year celebration or other special occasion.

Van Gogh – amazing. Lose yourself and your students of art, history, possibly literature, in this wonderful online exhibit from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Learn about Van Gogh’s life, explore how Van Gogh used lines and light, learn about Van Gogh’s drawing history, or try your hand at a blank paper and see what magic you can work with a digital writing instrument. A neat site and easy to navigate. Enjoy!
